Camping Bares Trip to
Isla de
Baja Calif., Mexico |

Steve Margolin led the
Camping Bares' seventh camping expedition to Isla de Todos Santos, a small intriguing island
located in the Pacific Ocean about 12 miles off of Ensenada, B.C., Mexico.
This one-square-mile island is uninhabited (except for a small
abalone farm) and has few visitors, yet is known for superb diving conditions, with beautiful
protected coves, sea caves, and calm, gin-clear water. The island itself is of volcanic origin,
with lava peaks, towering cliffs, rock formations, and caves. Several species of sea birds nest on
the island, and friendly seals frequent the coves and off-shore rocks.
The trip was similar to previous year's: carpooling to Ensenada on
Friday, round-trip transportation to the island aboard a chartered sportfishing boat, and returning
to San Diego on Monday (Labor Day). We explored the island, skinny-dipped and snorkelled, had
bar-b-ques and campfires, and just relaxed at our scenic waterfront camp.
Saturday morning we hiked to the spectacular south end. Back at
camp we enjoyed an island pot-luck featuring Steve's famous margaritas. On the way back to San
Diego on Monday we celebrated our adventure at Puerto Nuevo with a lobster dinner grand finale.

in body acceptance, and promoting clothing-optional lifestyles and recreational sites.
Steve Margolin also leads trips to Canon de Guadalupe. This
spectacular, remote canyon is an oasis of palm trees, huge granite boulders, waterfalls, caves, and
natural hot springs. It is situated on the east slope of the Sierra de Juarez Mountains of
northern Baja Calif., 100 scenic miles S.E. of Tecate, B.C. The last trip was over Presidents' Day
weekend, Feb. 13-16, 2004.
